Its construction, spanning from 1755 to 1770, was overseen by Nicolas de Pigage for Elector Palatine Charles Theodor and his wife, Countess Palatine Elisabeth Auguste of Sulzbach. This copy of the Marienstatue from Einsiedeln, Switzerland, is at the center of a cherished tradition. Every second Sunday in October, a Lichterprozession takes place, carrying the Gnadenbild through the Schlosspark. Benrath’s cultural vibrancy extends beyond its historical sites. The district hosts a variety of regular events, from Schloss concerts and the Bier Boerse in August to the Advent and Christmas markets in November and December. Benrath also boasts a fascinating linguistic distinction. It marks the Benrath line, a linguistic boundary separating Low German and Middle German dialects. This line, also known as the maken-machen-line, highlights the region’s unique position in German language.
