Established in 1925 Bell High School stands proudly. It initially opened as the Bell Unit of Huntington Park Union High School. Only two classes freshmen and sophomores began their studies there. Just 14 teachers instructed 325 students. Mr Claude L Reeves a USC graduate served as the first principal. He remained until 1939. Bell High’s motto “Honor lies in honest toil” reflects its dedication to education. The school’s mascot is the eagle its colors purple and gold.

Bell High School’s history is intertwined with the growth of Bell Cudahy and Maywood. It serves these communities and parts of Huntington Park and Vernon. Some areas share zoning with Huntington Park High School creating a friendly rivalry. The school joined the Los Angeles Unified School District in 1961. It’s a comprehensive high school offering grades 9 through 12. Over the years Bell High has educated thousands of students.

The school’s athletic programs have a rich history. The basketball team boasts four 3-A city championships. Their wrestling team has won five CIF city championships. These victories showcase the school’s commitment to athletic excellence. Bell High’s marching band known as “The Pride of the Southeast” adds to the school’s vibrant spirit. Bell High School has also nurtured notable alumni. Among its graduates are musicians Tom Araya of Slayer B-Real of Cypress Hill and Stan Kenton. Athletes like Marvin Benard and several others also attended. Politicians John Ferraro and George Gascón are alumni adding to Bell High’s diverse legacy.
