Did Beizangcun always have this name? No. Beizangcun Town, nestled in the western expanse of Beijing’s Daxing District, traces its name back to the humble Beizang Village. This village, meaning “North Zang Village”, predates the bustling town we see today. Beizangcun shares its borders with a mix of towns and subdistricts. To the north lies Huangcun Town. Eastward, you’ll find Linxiao Road and Tiangongyuan Subdistricts. Southward sits Panggezhuang Town. Westward, Liulihe and Changyang Towns complete the picture. Beizangcun has seen its population grow significantly. The 2020 census recorded a population of 35,391 residents. Beizangcun wasn’t always a town. Its administrative status has evolved over time, reflecting the broader changes in China’s governance. From 1949 to 1953, it fell under Panggezhuang 2nd District within Daxing County, Hebei. Then, between 1953 and 1956, it transitioned into townships like Dazangcun, Zhaojiachang, and Xinlicun. The period from 1956 to 1958 saw it emerge as Beizangcun Township. From 1958 to 1960, it was administered by Panggezhuang People’s Commune. It continued its transformation, existing as Beizangcun People’s Commune (1960-1965), then as Tiantanghe People’s Commune (1965-1968), and later as Dongfanghong People’s Commune (1968-1981). It reverted to Beizangcun People’s Commune (1981-1983), then Beizangcun Township (1983-2000), and finally achieving town status in 2000. By 2021, Beizangcun Town encompassed seventeen distinct villages, each contributing to the town’s rich tapestry.
