Here we stand before a monument to sporting glory a testament to Beijing’s unique status. This museum is south of the iconic Bird’s Nest. It is more than just a building. It’s a living legacy of the Olympic Games.
The Beijing Olympic Museum reopened in February 2024 after extensive renovations. This reopening coincided with the second anniversary of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. The museum serves as a hub for Olympic research. It also focuses on the collection, preservation, and exhibition of Olympic artifacts.
Step inside. The museum spans 8604 square meters. It presents a comprehensive look at both the Summer and Winter Olympics hosted by Beijing. The basic exhibition hall is themed “Realizing Dreams at Two Olympics, Together for a Shared Future”. The museum has three sections. They are “Spectacular Winter Olympics”, “Memories of Summer Olympics”, and “Dual-Olympic City”.
Look around at the 1394 exhibits. Notice the photographs and videos. They capture the highlights of both games. The Beijing Olympic Museum preserves the cultural heritage of the Olympics.
The museum’s history began in 2009. In May 2021 its administration transferred to the Beijing Olympic City Development Center. Substantial progress was made over two years. The interior and exterior were upgraded. These projects completed in 2023.
IOC President Thomas Bach praised Beijing as a “Dual-Olympic City”. He emphasized that Beijing has written an extraordinary chapter in Olympic history. The refurbished museum is a brilliant monument. It instills timeless Olympic values in every visitor.
The Beijing Olympic Museum is now part of the Olympic Museums Network. Olympic champions like Ye Qiaobo and Deng Yaping donated their personal collections. These donations enrich the museum’s holdings.
The indoor exhibition space highlights elements of the Beijing 2008 and 2022 Games. The Entrance Hall presents exhibits on China and the Modern Olympic Movement. The Permanent Exhibition Hall covers a vast area. It showcases the journey of Beijing’s Olympic involvement. It also shows the impact of the Games.

The Shop & Education Area offers educational opportunities. It also has leisure activities and shopping. The Multi-Functional Activity Area hosts temporary exhibitions. The Multi-Functional Room hosts lectures and seminars.
The Beijing Olympic Museum is open Tuesday through Sunday. It is a place where the Olympic spirit comes to life. Visitors of all ages can be inspired. China can be very proud of these two editions of the Olympic Games.
