The origin of Beckedorf began with a single farmstead. This was called Hof Weide. In 842, the Billunger Count Amelung gave it to Corvey Imperial Abbey. The monastery expanded the farm into a manor. It became a large agricultural operation. It had significant influence. Beckedorf village developed around watercourses. It was a Reiheniedlung, a settlement along a valley edge. The name Beckedorf relates to its location by a stream or “Beke.”
Around Beckedorf lies Weide and Wittenberg. In 1571, Beckedorf had seven households. Wittenberg had two. Weide had one. Beckedorf lacked a central cultural point. It had no church or school. Church-wise, it belonged to Sinstorf. The 20th century brought changes to Beckedorf. A sand-lime brick factory was established. There was also petroleum exploration. Yet the village managed to maintain its rural charm. Since July 1, 1972, Beckedorf has been part of the municipality of Seevetal.
