Bear Creek Pioneers Park’s creation is linked to a devastating event. The catastrophic 1935 Houston flood prompted action. The US Army Corps of Engineers built the Addicks Reservoir between 1946 and 1948. This reservoir helped prevent future floods. The park now occupies a significant portion of this reservoir.
Harris County took a bold step in 1965. They leased 2154 acres of the reservoir. The transformation into a park began. The name itself Bear Creek Pioneers Park is a tribute.
