Have you ever felt the weight of the world on your shoulders? Here at Glasgow Central Station, stands the Beacon of Hope. It’s more than just a sculpture. It’s a symbol of positivity, a testament to the human spirit’s resilience in the face of the climate crisis. This 4.5m high timber structure isn’t just visually striking. It’s constructed from layers of Scottish-grown Sitka Spruce, a nod to Scotland’s burgeoning timber construction industry. This Beacon of Hope is a physical representation of the sustainable practices we need to embrace for a better future. For COP26, fifty companies united to create three inspiring installations across Glasgow. The Beacon of Hope here at Central Station, crafted by Steuart Padwick, is one of them. It aims to inspire the millions of passengers who pass through this station every year. Look closely, and you’ll find words of hope etched onto the sculpture. Local children and Scottish writers contributed these messages. They serve as a reminder that even small voices can contribute to a larger narrative of hope. The Beacon of Hope is a fusion of art and activism. It prompts us to reflect on the climate crisis and consider our role in building a more sustainable world.
