A beacon of hope. That’s what Bishop Darryl Brister envisioned when he rebuilt Beacon Baptist Church in New Orleans. Beacon Baptist Church had once boasted over 7,000 active members. Then Hurricane Katrina swept through, leaving devastation in its wake. The church buildings were destroyed. The congregation scattered across the United States. Bishop Brister, however, remained steadfast in his faith and commitment to his community. He worked tirelessly to rebuild Beacon Baptist Church. The reopening on August 29, 2014, marked not just a new building, but a renewed spirit of resilience and hope. Today, Beacon Baptist Church thrives once more, a testament to the unwavering dedication of Bishop Brister and the strength of the New Orleans community. Bishop Brister, consecrated as a Bishop at the young age of 29, is a man of many accomplishments. He is the Second Presiding Bishop in the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship International. He has ministered internationally, from Japan to Africa. He is also an author, having written nine books. He even founded the Darryl S. Brister Bible College and Theological Seminary and the Beacon Light Christian Academy. His wife, Dr. Dionne Flot Brister, shares his passion for ministry. She serves as the First Lady of Beacon Baptist Church and oversees the Women’s Ministry. She is also an accomplished author and advocate for abused and neglected children. Beacon Baptist Church is more than just a place of worship. It is a center for community outreach and empowerment, embodying the spirit of resilience and hope.
