What makes a garden more than just a patch of dirt? Here at the BDEA Community Garden, nestled within Roxbury’s vibrant Moreland Historic District, it’s the heart of a community. The BDEA Community Garden isn’t just about growing vegetables. It’s about nurturing connections. The Boston Day and Evening Academy (BDEA), a school dedicated to helping students thrive, generously supports this garden. In 2010, there was a dedication ceremony for the BDEA Academy Garden. This event, part of the Boston Day celebrations, marked a significant moment for the school and the community. The BDEA Community Garden became a symbol of growth and opportunity. During the pandemic, the BDEA Community Garden truly blossomed. It became a lifeline for around 45 families. They relied on the fresh produce grown right here. More than that, it served as a gathering place. A sanctuary where neighbors could connect and find solace in uncertain times. In a neighborhood largely composed of Black and Latino families, the BDEA Community Garden is a testament to the power of shared space and shared purpose. It is a place where students learn, families gather, and the community flourishes.
