Serving the Bronx since 1973, the Baychester Library became a vital resource for the community. But by 2003, it was time for a refresh. The spruce-up brought 22 new public computers for all ages. New shelving, lighting, flooring, and even the ceiling got an upgrade. The old furniture was replaced, and a sleek new circulation desk was installed. The community room also received a much-needed refurbishment. Assemblyman Stephen B. Kaufman, instrumental in securing funding for the renovation, spoke at the reopening celebration. He emphasized the vital role of the Baychester Library in providing access to computers and other essential resources. Located in the bustling Bartow Shopping Mall, the Baychester Library is a popular hub. This makes it one of the busiest branches in the Bronx. The library boasts separate collections for adults, young adults, and children. The reference, magazine, and media sections are all housed on one spacious, wheelchair-accessible floor. Trained staff are always on hand to assist library users with computers and other inquiries. The Baychester Library also offers diverse programs in its 70-seat community room. These educational and recreational programs cater to children, teens, and adults. The Baychester Library continues its mission to provide information, education, culture, and inspiration to Co-op City and beyond.
