Did Emilio Gallino, affectionately known as “Milly”, ever imagine his scouting legacy would flourish like this? Here at Base Scout Vigevano, nestled within the Istituto Negrone on Corso Milano 5, the spirit of scouting thrives. Base Scout Vigevano is more than just a campsite. It’s a testament to Milly’s vision. He arrived in Vigevano in 1972, a seasoned scout from Mortara. Just a year later, in 1973, he laid the foundation for what would become Base Scout Vigevano. With the support of Don Pino Sabaini, the parish priest of Addolorata, Milly transformed a humble basement into a vibrant hub for seven eager youngsters. The group quickly grew to 30 members, prompting the formation of a Cub Scout pack led by the older scouts themselves. By 1987, the group had blossomed, and Milly, confident in its self-sufficiency, returned to Mortara. But Base Scout Vigevano continued to grow. Today, it boasts around 90 scouts. It has become an integral part of Vigevano’s social fabric, instilling values of responsibility, faith, adventure, service, and play. Base Scout Vigevano stands as a living tribute to Milly’s dedication. It echoes with the laughter and camaraderie of generations of scouts, embodying the enduring spirit of scouting that Milly ignited in Vigevano.
