The Bank of Dongguan Basketball Centre opened its doors on August 31 2014. Its inaugural event was the Yao Ming Foundation Charity Game. This game featured basketball stars like Tony Parker and Shane Battier.
Initially it was named Dongfeng Nissan Cultural and Sports Center. Dongfeng Nissan acquired the naming rights that day. In November 2019, the Bank of Dongguan took over the sponsorship. Hence the new name: Bank of Dongguan Basketball Centre.
The arena is home to the Guangdong Southern Tigers. They have been playing here since the 2014-15 CBA playoffs. This venue has also hosted the 2015 Sudirman Cup. It also served as a venue for the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
The Bank of Dongguan Basketball Centre construction began in 2009. It quickly became one of China’s largest indoor sports venues. The arena can hold about 16000 fans.
