The aroma of simmering marinara hangs heavy in the air. This is Bamonte’s.

Bamonte’s isn’t just a restaurant. It’s a living testament to Brooklyn’s Italian-American heritage. Founded in 1900 by Pasquale Bamonte and his wife it began as Liberty Hall a banquet hall and meeting place. Imagine the bustling crowds the lively conversations the echoes of laughter from a century ago.

Pasquale’s grandson Anthony took over in the late 1960s. He still owns it today along with his three daughters Lisa Laura and Nicole. They’ve kept the old-world charm alive. The restaurant even boasts original wooden telephone booths.

Bamonte’s has a reputation. It’s been called a mob hangout. In fact after his release from prison Anthony “Fat Tony” Rabito was forbidden from setting foot inside. The restaurant’s history is woven into the very fabric of Brooklyn’s underworld tales.

But Bamonte’s is more than just a setting for gangster movies. It’s starred in The Sopranos Power Person of Interest Kojak Homeland and even Cookie a 1989 mobster film. Gerry Torciano a character in The Sopranos was even murdered there. The restaurant’s fame extends far beyond its walls.

In 2021 Condé Nast Traveler named Bamonte’s one of NYC’s 21 best Italian restaurants. That’s quite an honor for a place that’s been serving up classic red sauce dishes for over a century. They’ve served chicken parmigiana spaghetti and meatballs and lasagna for generations. The recipes have been passed down through the family.

The interior is a time capsule. Vintage photographs adorn the walls. The warm lighting creates a cozy atmosphere. The restaurant’s old-school charm is undeniable. It’s a place where history and delicious food collide.

Step inside Bamonte’s. Smell the food. Hear the chatter. Feel the weight of history. You’re not just eating a meal. You’re experiencing a slice of Brooklyn’s soul. A true legend in the heart of Williamsburg.
