Fancy finding out about a church that rose from the union of congregations? I’m talking about Baljaffray Parish Church. It is a place with a story woven from threads of different pasts.

Baljaffray Parish Church stands as a testament to faith and community. It is a beacon in Bearsden near Glasgow. The church officially opened on August 25th 1993. It became a symbol of unity.

Before Baljaffray Parish Church existed in its current form, there were other churches. Balshagray Victoria Park Church was formed in 1991. It was created by the union of Victoria Park Parish Church and Balshagray Parish Church. The Balshagray Victoria Park congregation chose to worship in the Balshagray Church building.

The “new” Victoria Park Church building met its end in 1993. The old church was demolished in the 1960s. This demolition paved the way for the Clyde Tunnel.

The former Balshagray Parish Church has its own story. Stewart and Paterson designed the Neo-Gothic building. Construction took place between 1908 and 1909. The foundation stone was laid on May 30th 1908. The church was built in a cruciform shape. Snecked red sandstone ashlar formed its walls.

Balshagray Victoria Park Church contains stained glass windows. One window commemorates those who fell in World War I. Another, created by Sadie McLellan around 1950, represents Scottish industries.

Baljaffray Parish Church carries forward the legacy of Balshagray Victoria Park Church. It stands as a place of worship. It acts as a symbol of community in Bearsden. Its history reflects the changing landscape of faith in Glasgow. Its roots reach back to the early 20th century. The church’s story continues with each passing year. It evolves with its congregation. It is not just a building but a living testament to faith and community.
