Painted in 1996 by Mike Womble and the Mayor’s Mural Crew, Baker’s Dream is more than just a pretty picture. It represents a city’s commitment to art and community. The Mayor’s Mural Crew, a Parks and Recreation program, began in 1991. It was a summer project to combat graffiti. High school students designed and painted murals to replace the unwanted tags. Since then, the program has involved hundreds of young people and numerous artists. They have transformed Boston’s walls into canvases of color and creativity. Baker’s Dream is a testament to the power of art to uplift and inspire.
