Did you ever hear of a church built by public generosity? Baillieston St Andrew’s Church stands as a testament to community spirit. Right here, where two congregations, Baillieston Old Parish and Rhinsdale, merged their histories in 1966, creating the Baillieston St Andrew’s Church community. The old Baillieston Parish Church building, opened in 1833, became too small. It had witnessed the town’s growth and the changing needs of its people. The united congregations dreamed of a larger space, a place that could embrace their growing numbers and serve their shared faith. Reverend John J.C. Owen, their first minister, championed this vision. He inspired the congregation to embark on a remarkable fundraising campaign. Through bake sales and community events, they steadily gathered the resources needed to build a new church. This collaborative effort, fueled by the shared vision, enabled them to build the Baillieston St Andrew’s Church we see today. The church, dedicated in December 1974, stands as a symbol of their dedication and community. Baillieston St Andrew’s Church isn’t just a building. It’s a living story of unity, perseverance, and the power of shared dreams. The church continues to be a hub for the Baillieston community. It offers a wide range of activities, echoing the inclusive spirit of its founders. In 2013, Baillieston St Andrew’s Church linked with Mure Memorial Church, further strengthening its connection to the local community. Today, Baillieston St Andrew’s Church stands proudly. It serves as a reminder that even grand structures can rise from the humble foundations of community spirit and shared aspirations.
