This Baha’i Center was built in 1997. The community had outgrown its previous meeting place. Its unique nine-sided design symbolizes inclusivity. It reflects the Baha’i principle of accepting people from every direction.
The Baha’i Faith itself is relatively young. Its origins trace back to 19th-century Persia, now Iran. Baha’u’llah declared himself the messenger of God in 1863. His teachings of unity challenged the powerful clergy. This led to his imprisonment, torture, and exile.
Baha’is believe in the unity of all religions. They see a single God behind all faiths. They view the path to world peace as unifying mankind. This includes a universal language and monetary system.
Here in Las Vegas, the Baha’i community thrives. Despite the city’s temptations, followers embrace the faith’s principles. These principles include racial and gender equality, peace, and harmony. They also value the equitable distribution of wealth.
Amr Hosny, a leader at the Las Vegas Bahai Center, estimates about 1,000 followers live across the valley. They gather in every geographic community.
