Spanning approximately 24 kilometers, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link integrates bridges, islands, a tunnel, and an underwater interchange. This cross-sea passage is one of the most complex construction projects ever undertaken. The project pioneered industrialized and intelligent construction methods. It led to the development of 15 world-first core materials, key technologies, and major national equipment.

The world’s longest bi-directional eight-lane underwater immersed tube tunnel is 5,035 meters long. It consists of 32 segments and one final joint. Each standard segment involved pouring 29,000 cubic meters of self-compacting concrete. That totals 910,000 cubic meters.
Finally, there is the world’s first underwater highway interchange, including the airport interchange. The world’s widest repeatedly foldable M-type waterstop of 3 meters wide was used in the final joint of the immersed tube.
