A decade ago a dream took shape. A building unlike any other was envisioned. That dream is Aviva Studios.

Right here before you stands Aviva Studios a landmark cultural space. Its story began almost a decade ago. A bold proposal a building unlike any other. The vision was ambitious.

World-renowned architect Ellen van Loon of OMA spearheaded the design. Her vision created ultra-flexible spaces. These spaces adapt to host diverse events. From intimate theatre to massive multimedia performances Aviva Studios can do it all.

Construction was a massive undertaking. Laing O’Rourke led the build. Many Greater Manchester companies helped. Talented photographers documented the process. Ming de Nasty captured portraits of the workers. Pawel Paniczko documented the build from start to finish. Helene Binet’s large-format film photography added another perspective.

The journey wasn’t easy. The Making the Factory podcast chronicles the ups and downs. It reveals the four-year construction process. The podcast features interviews with key figures. They share insights into the challenges and triumphs. The pandemic impacted the project. A thrilling digital programme emerged despite the lockdowns.

Aviva Studios isn’t just a building. It is a cultural hub. It’s a space for Manchester’s diverse communities to gather. The opening in 2023 was a huge event. The Welcome a nine-day celebration marked the occasion.

The 13350 square metre building includes the Warehouse. It holds up to 5000 people. The Hall offers flexible staging for up to 2000. Both spaces can even work together.

Aviva Studios’ impact extends far beyond its physical presence. It is a testament to collaboration. It is a beacon of creativity. It’s a space where art flourishes and communities connect. It’s a building that truly lives up to its original vision. It’s a building unlike any other. Aviva Studios.
