Welcome to a place where the driving spirit is celebrated. The Automotive Hall of Fame honors those whose innovations revolutionized how we live. It all began in 1939. A group called the Automobile Old Timers wanted to preserve the memories of automotive pioneers.

Originally located in New York City, the organization moved to Washington D.C. It later found its home at Northwood University in Midland Michigan. In 1997 the Automotive Hall of Fame moved to its current location in Dearborn.

Here in Dearborn, the Automotive Hall of Fame stands proudly. It is adjacent to The Henry Ford Museum. The Automotive Hall of Fame is also part of the MotorCities National Heritage Area. The National Park Service recognizes this area for its automotive and labor heritage.

Since opening its doors in 1997 the Automotive Hall of Fame has honored over 800 individuals. These automotive legends have left an indelible mark on the industry. Inside these walls are exhibits that showcase classic cars historical documents and interactive displays. They bring the history of automotive innovation to life.

Notably the Hall of Fame awards the Distinguished Service Citation. They also present the Industry Leader of the Year Award and the Young Leader and Excellence Award.

Let’s talk about some of the automotive giants inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame.

Karl Benz made it in 1984. Walter P Chrysler was inducted. Henry Ford earned his place too. More recently Mary Barra was added to the list in 2023.

The Automotive Hall of Fame also celebrates international figures. Giovanni Agnelli from Italy was inducted in 2002. Soichiro Honda from Japan is also a member.

Did you know the Automotive Hall of Fame has a spectacular mural? This 11-foot-high 65-foot-long mural showcases 90 images. It celebrates the impact of the motor vehicle on global culture.

The Automotive Hall of Fame celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2014. In 2019 they celebrated their 80th anniversary.
