Originally opened in June 2008, the Audubon Insectarium has become a cornerstone of the Audubon Nature Institute complex. It was once located in the U.S. Custom House. Now, it has found a new home at the Audubon Aquarium since June 8, 2023.
The Insectarium boasts over 50 live exhibits. There are numerous multimedia elements, too. At 23000 square feet, it is the largest free-standing American museum dedicated to insects.
Step inside. Prepare to be amazed by the sheer diversity of the insect world. Wander through exhibits showcasing everything from delicate butterflies to giant beetles. You can learn about their life cycles, behaviors, and ecological roles.
Did you know the deadliest insect in the world is the mosquito? It kills 750000 people every year. And get this. Crickets chirp by stridulation, rubbing body parts together. Some insects even have ears on their legs, thorax, or abdomen.
Feeling adventurous? Why not sample some insect cuisine. The Audubon Insectarium offers a chance to taste specially prepared insects.

Unfortunately, the Insectarium faced a temporary closure in September 2020 due to revenue shortages. This was caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. But it has found a new location.
