Imagine walking through these doors, ready to embrace an academic journey. However, this is not just any university. It’s the Adventist University of Central Africa (AUCA) in Kigali. You see, this institution has a truly unique past. Founded in 1978, AUCA first opened its doors in the Western Province of Rwanda, a place called Mudende. The university thrived for a decade, until a tragic event forced it to close in 1994, driven out by the Rwandan genocide and looting of its Mudende campus. Two years later, AUCA made a remarkable comeback. In 1996, it re-opened its doors in Kigali, offering a new chapter. But that wasn’t all. The university expanded its presence, building a second campus at Gishushu. This campus, which is not too far from AUCA’s main campus, is home to a cutting edge science center with 24 classrooms, ideal for engaging in the latest technological discoveries. AUCA has shown incredible resilience and ambition, constantly seeking to improve and expand its reach. In fact, in 2005, they secured a 22-hectare site, just a stone’s throw from Kigali International Airport, to build a new campus named Masoro. This site includes a 2000-seat multi-purpose conference hall, showcasing AUCA’s firm commitment to engaging with a wide community.
