Picture Atascocita High School towering before you. Its red white and blue colors boldly declare its presence. This isn’t just a school. This is a community hub a place where dreams take flight.
Atascocita High School opened in 2006. It quickly became the largest high school in the Humble Independent School District. It was the district’s first new high school since 1979. The school’s rapid growth led to unique challenges.
From the start Atascocita High School dealt with overcrowding. Temporary classrooms were brought in to handle the influx of students. A new wing was constructed in 2009. More temporary buildings appeared in 2016. A new wing was added in 2021-2022. Even more temporary classrooms arrived in 2022-2023. This growth reflects the booming Atascocita community.
The school’s innovative house system deserves attention. Atascocita High School was the first in the district to use such a large-scale house system. It divides students into smaller communities. Each community has its own counselor and assistant principal. The house system creates a more personalized learning environment. This innovative design was later adopted by other Humble ISD high schools.
Atascocita High School boasts impressive academics. In 2018-2019 it received a B grade from the Texas Education Agency. It excels in a variety of extracurricular activities. These include band choir clubs and JROTC. The school also fields numerous athletic teams. Many notable alumni have gone on to achieve great things.
This includes professional athletes. Names like Jamal Branch Sam Cosmi and Carsen Edwards are just a few examples. These individuals represent the success that Atascocita High School fosters. The school’s motto “Learning for life through rigor relevance and relationships” guides its mission.
