They journeyed from Burkina Faso on horseback in 1931, planting the first Assemblies of God seed in Yendi. Think of those early days. Missionaries like Beulah Buchhwalter, Guy Hickok, and Florence Blossom faced harsh conditions. They spread the Gospel, establishing churches in Tamale, Walewale, and Bawku. Assemblies of God, Ghana also addressed practical needs. They fought illiteracy and poverty. They taught skills and improved economic lives. They even built clinics in Saboba and Nakpanduri, bringing healthcare to those who needed it most. The church also understood the importance of education. In 1950, they opened their first Bible school in Kumbungu, training future leaders like Rev. Bewini and Elisha Akurugu. Assemblies of God, Ghana didn’t just focus on spiritual growth. They recognized the power of the written word, establishing the Assemblies of God Literature Centre in Accra. They even published a Dagomba version of the New Testament. From humble beginnings in the north, the church blossomed in the south. Southern Ghanaians, inspired by the faith they encountered in the north, carried the message back to their communities. Churches sprung up in Accra, Kumasi, and Takoradi. The Assemblies of God, Ghana continues to thrive, a beacon of faith and service.
