Asokore-Mampong Municipal District

On the northeastern edge of Kumasi sprawls the Asokore-Mampong Municipal District. A vibrant hub carved from the larger Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly in 2012. Established officially by Legislative Instrument (L.I) 2112, Asokore-Mampong covers a modest 23.91 square kilometers. But don’t let the size fool you. This district pulses with life and a rich history. The Asokore-Mampong Municipal District is bordered by several key areas. These areas include the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly to the east, south, and west. They also share borders with the Kwabre East Municipal to the northwest. And lastly, there is the Ejisu Municipal to the southeast. The 2021 Population and Housing Census recorded a population of 191,402. This area is a mix of 93,506 males and 97,896 females, spread across ten electoral areas. These areas include Aboabo No.1, Aboabo No.2, Adukrom, Akurem, Asokore Mampong itself, Sawaba, Asawasi, New Zongo, Sepe-Tinpom, and Akwatialine. Home to Kumasi Academy, a renowned senior high school, Asokore-Mampong also boasts the impressive SSNIT affordable housing projects. The Asokore-Mampong Municipal District is more than just buildings and boundaries. It’s the people, the stories, and the sense of community that truly bring it to life. The Asokore-Mampong Palace, a magnificent structure designed by Chief Nana Boakye-Ansah Debrah, sits on a sprawling four-acre lot, a testament to the district’s vibrant cultural heritage. The district has witnessed its share of challenges, including a devastating fire at Sepe that gutted a five-bedroom apartment. But it’s also a place of resilience and generosity. The CBS Supreme Industries Limited, located within the municipality, donated much-needed office furniture to the local fire service station. Under the leadership of Hon. Kennedy Kwasi Kankam, the Asokore-Mampong Municipal District has seen significant development. With the completion of 41 projects in just two years, including the opening of a new fire station, the district is moving forward, embracing progress while preserving its rich cultural tapestry. The Asokore-Mampong Municipal District, a small district with a big heart, is a testament to the dynamism and resilience of Ghana.
