Over 47,000 people walk through the doors of the ASG Bildungsforum every year. Can you imagine the sheer volume of stories contained within these walls? The ASG Bildungsforum, here in Dusseldorf, isn’t just a building. It’s a living testament to the power of lifelong learning. Founded in 1954 as the “Katholische Arbeitsgemeinschaft Mütterbildung” (Catholic Working Group for Mothers’ Education), this institution has blossomed into a vibrant center for education and community. The ASG Bildungsforum is a state-recognized, non-profit further education institute. Its sponsor, the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Sozialpädagogik und Gesellschaftsbildung e.V. (ASG), upholds Christian values. With roughly 70,000 teaching hours annually, the ASG is one of the largest further education institutes in North Rhine-Westphalia. It’s also the biggest Catholic institute of its kind in Germany. The ASG Bildungsforum houses three distinct entities under one roof. There’s the “Bildungswerk” (Educational Center), focusing on general, vocational, and leisure-oriented further education. It’s recognized by the Ministry for Economy and Labor. Their cultural education includes theology, philosophy, literature, art, and music. They cater to those with professional ambitions through courses in foreign languages, IT, communication, and business. Then there’s the “Familienbildungsstätte” (Family Education Center), emphasizing parenting and family matters. It’s recognized by the Ministry for Health, Social Affairs, Women, and Family. Alongside courses on household management and parenting, it offers programs promoting cognitive and creative skills in preschool and primary school children. The center also champions health through a comprehensive sports program. Lastly, the ASG functions as a regional Catholic educational center and family education provider for the Düsseldorf city deanery. The ASG boasts five buildings with 42 classrooms. It also utilizes rented spaces at over 120 other locations for its diverse programs, which range from infant care to philosophical lectures. The ASG employs over 50 permanent staff and engages close to 1,000 freelancers. They manage and deliver over 3,500 courses and events at the ASG Bildungsforum. From the echoes of philosophical debates to the laughter of children in creative workshops, this institution pulsates with life and learning. It’s a place where minds meet, ideas ignite, and communities are strengthened. The ASG Bildungsforum is more than just an education center. It’s a testament to the enduring human thirst for knowledge and growth.
