“A temple built on brotherhood and resilience.” That’s the essence of Arulmigu Shanmuga Selva Vinayagar Temple. We stand before a testament to familial love and devotion. The Arulmigu Shanmuga Selva Vinayagar Temple isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a story etched in stone and faith. Our journey begins in 1896, with two brothers, Kodi Samarapuri Mudaliar and Shanmuga Mudaliar. They saw the dilapidated state of the nearby Sri Nallinaikeswarar Shiva temple. Driven by piety, they funded its reconstruction. The Shiva Lingam, the Rishabam, all renewed with stones brought from Pattimalaikuppam, also known as Sankarapuram. The brothers breathed life back into the sacred space. A decade later, in 1906, new deities graced the temple. Arumugar and Thiripura Sundari Amman joined the divine assembly. Singara Mudaliar established the Navagrahas, the celestial guardians. The temple thrived under Samarapuri Mudaliar’s trusteeship. However, discord arose within the village. Legal battles ensued, and despite court victories, Samarapuri Mudaliar stepped down. Yet, the story doesn’t end there. In 1918, on the very spot where Shanmuga Mudaliar had planted a sacred peepal tree, a new temple arose. The Arulmigu Shanmuga Selva Vinayagar Temple. A tribute to brotherhood, consecrated in 1920. A sthapathi named V Selvamuthu, from Thirukannapuram, lent his skill to its creation. The temple’s inscription bears witness to this history. It whispers of challenges overcome and devotion unwavering. Even today, the legacy continues. Samarapuri Mudaliar’s great-grandson, M Balasubramaniyar, added more deities to the Arulmigu Shanmuga Selva Vinayagar Temple. Ekambara Nathar with Kamakshi Amman, Subramaniyar with Valli and Devasena. Bairavar, Nagar, Dakshinamurthy, Nardhana Ganapathy, Lingothbavar, Brahma, and Durgai. The temple stands as a vibrant hub of worship. Regular poojas and special celebrations mark the calendar. Shivaratri and Vinayagar Chathurti fill the air with sacred energy. The Arulmigu Shanmuga Selva Vinayagar Temple is more than bricks and mortar. It’s a story of devotion, resilience, and the enduring power of brotherhood.
