The yellow bricks gleam under the Scandinavian sun. Arlövs kyrka stands before you a testament to time and faith.

Arlövs kyrka is more than just a church. It’s a story etched in stone and stained glass. A story of a growing community needing a larger place of worship. It replaced the older Burlövs gamla kyrka. This new church was built in 1900. Architect Alfred Arwidius designed its Neo-Gothic style. The yellow machine-made bricks are striking. The details are exquisite. Sandstone from Övedskloster frames the windows and portals. The patterned slate roof is a work of art.

Construction wasn’t the end of the story. In the 1960s a major restoration occurred. Danish artist Mogens Jørgensen created stunning stained glass windows. These windows grace the choir. They add a vibrant splash of color. The church faced challenges in the 1990s. Moisture and decay threatened its structure. Extensive repairs to the roof and exterior walls were necessary. A complete interior renovation followed in 1999. The exterior brickwork was meticulously repaired. Biskop Christina Odenberg re-consecrated Arlövs kyrka on Palm Sunday 2000.

Arlövs kyrka’s history is punctuated by its organs. A Setterquist organ was installed in 1901. A Jens Zachariassen organ followed in 1967. However this organ was eventually removed in 1996 due to deterioration. The quest for a replacement organ was interesting. Arlövs församling sought a Setterquist organ from Motala. Unfortunately this organ proved to be incomplete. A scandal involving stolen pipes arose. This incident delayed their plans significantly. Eventually Åkerman & Lund built a new organ in 2005. It sits in the north transept. The present organ has a magnificent sound. It’s a beautiful piece.

The baptismal font made of sandstone is another remarkable detail. It dates back to the church’s consecration in 1900. The pulpit with its sound cover is positioned on the gospel side. Arlövs kyrka’s story is one of resilience. It is one of artistic beauty. It’s a story of community faith. It is a story waiting to be discovered within these walls. Enjoy your exploration of this architectural gem. This significant part of Malmö’s heritage.
