The Arab Open University began with a vision. Prince Talal Bin Abdulaziz conceived it in 1996. He dreamed of a non-traditional academic institution. His vision became a reality in 2002. The Arab Open University was established in partnership with the Open University in the United Kingdom.

Here at the Arab Open University, blended learning is key. This approach combines traditional classes with online education. It allows students from all walks of life to access higher education. It serves those who cannot attend regular on-site programs.

Look around. The Arab Open University in Riyadh is the main campus within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. But the university’s reach extends far beyond this city. There are fifteen branches. Nine are in Arab countries. Six branches operate within Saudi Arabia.

Since its founding, the Arab Open University has served many students. Over 270,000 individuals have enrolled. Approximately 70,000 have graduated. Most graduates are women. The university welcomes students regardless of economic or social status.

The blended learning system attracts a diverse student body. Students from 133 nationalities have attended the Arab Open University. Saudi students make up the largest group at 64 percent. Yemeni students are the second largest at 8 percent. Syrian students comprise 6.6 percent of the student body.

The Arab Open University comprises several faculties. The Faculty of Business Studies is popular. It offers tracks in Administrative Systems, Marketing, and Accounting. The Faculty of Computer Studies offers Computer Science and Web Development. There is also a Faculty of Language Studies. It offers a Bachelor’s program in English Language and Literature. The Applied College provides training for the job market.

In the academic year 2020-2021, the Arab Open University celebrated a milestone. It saw the graduation of 3,500 students from its Saudi branches. These graduates are prepared to contribute to their countries’ development.

The Arab Open University has gained recognition. It holds accreditations from the Open University in the United Kingdom. It is also accredited by the Saudi Ministry of Education. The Saudi Education and Training Evaluation Commission also recognizes it. This ensures high-quality education. The blended system is equivalent to the regular education system.
