Question: Ever wondered how a simple mission sparked a spiritual movement across Zimbabwe? The Apostolic Faith Mission in Zimbabwe is more than just a church. It is a testament to faith and resilience.

The Apostolic Faith Mission has a rich history. It has profoundly impacted the religious landscape of Zimbabwe. Let us explore its origins and growth. We will uncover its significance in the country.

The story begins in 1915. Zacharias Manamela journeyed from South Africa. His mission was to establish the Apostolic Faith Mission in Zimbabwe. The church had already gained traction in South Africa. G J Booysen supported Manamela. He ensured the church’s registration and recognition. This task faced numerous hurdles.

Recognition finally came in 1918. The church purchased a farm in Gatooma now Kadoma. Under Luttig’s leadership the church began to expand. This expansion led to widespread acceptance across Zimbabwe.

The Apostolic Faith Mission believes in the Holy Spirit. It holds Sunday as a special day for worship. Today the Apostolic Faith Mission boasts a following of over two million people. These members come from diverse backgrounds.

The church is led by a democratically elected president. The president is supported by a council. Council members come from all provinces of the denomination. In 2011 there were about twenty-six provinces. This number changes as the church grows.

Aspher Madziyire led the church since 2003. He was based in Bulawayo. His wife Josephine led the ladies’ department. Reverend Titus I Murefu was second in command. He led the Harare North Province. Reverend Arthur Nhamburo deputized him. Reverend Amon Madawo served as the General Secretary since 2011. Elder M Shumba has been the church administrator since 2011.

The Apostolic Faith Mission has several departments. These include the Ladies Department. There is also Widows and Single Mothers WISOMS. Youths aged 14 to 40 also have a dedicated department. Other departments include Intercession Welfare and Sunday School. The Music department uses a hymn book. It enabled the formation of ZimPraise by Joseph Madziyire.

Annual conferences are a key part of the church’s activities. Almost every department holds its own conference. The general conference takes place in August. All conferences happen at Rufaro Conference Centre in Chatsworth in Masvingo. The church specifically purchased this place for such gatherings.

The Apostolic Faith Mission engages in philanthropy. It has established primary and secondary schools. These schools include Manhinga Primary School and Rufaro Mission School.

The church also runs theological schools. Living Waters Theological Seminary was the first to be established. Azusa Theological Seminary followed in Bulawayo. These schools offer various qualifications in theology ministry and religious studies.

Several prominent figures are members of the Apostolic Faith Mission. These include Charles and Mai Charamba.

From humble beginnings in Gwanda to its present-day influence the Apostolic Faith Mission stands as a beacon of faith. Its growth reflects the dedication of its leaders and members. The Apostolic Faith Mission continues to shape the spiritual lives of millions in Zimbabwe. Its story is a reminder of the power of faith. It highlights community and commitment.
