A wave of spiritual fervor swept across Europe in the 1800s. It birthed the Apostolic Christian Church. This church spread to the Americas. The Apostolic Christian Church’s roots lie in the dissatisfaction of a young Swiss pastor-in-training. Samuel H Froehlich found his formal education lacking in true spiritual transformation. He yearned for a radical rebirth. His passionate preaching caused a great awakening. This spread to neighboring villages. It angered state church authorities. They banned him from their pulpits. Undeterred Froehlich continued his mission. He rejected child baptism and the blending of church and state. His convictions drew many. Leaders and laypeople joined Froehlich to spread his message. Converts became missionaries. They zealously carried the message across Europe. They faced opposition from government and spiritual authorities. Within 35 years there were 110 congregations in Europe. The church was known as Evangelical Baptist. Anabaptists were drawn to Froehlich’s movement. They shared a desire to recapture the faithfulness of the Early Church. They believed no one should be forced to join a Christian society or believe a creed. Non-resistance became an Anabaptist distinctive. Persecution and economic hardship drove many to America in the 1800s. Many of Froehlich’s followers joined them. Starting in 1847 missionaries tirelessly worked to plant congregations across America. The movement quickly spread from New York to Oregon. It spread from California to Florida. Allegiance to German and other ethnic identifiers faded. In the early twentieth century the church formally adopted the name Apostolic Christian Church. Missionary efforts continued into the late twentieth century. Today Apostolic Christian congregations exist in Canada Mexico Japan and the United States. The church oversees missions in India Jamaica and Haiti. It maintains ties to congregations across Europe and Australia. This growth has not been without its challenges. Schisms due to differences in practice and doctrine have splintered the church. The church continues to adapt to a changing world. It maintains its adherence to the Bible and submission to the Spirit. The Apostolic Christian Church stands as a testament to enduring faith and adaptation. It has thrived through persecution and change. It continues to spread its message of spiritual renewal. Its story resonates with the power of faith and perseverance. The Apostolic Christian Church’s legacy endures a remarkable journey of faith.
