Tragedy struck in 1977. A devastating fire almost completely destroyed the Apostelkirche. The cause remains a mystery to this day. Was it arson or a terrible accident? It’s a question that hangs in the air. But from the ashes a phoenix rose.

A new organ by Jehmlich Orgelbau Dresden was installed in 1984. A new clock arrived too thanks to the Eimsbüttel Wochenblatt. A stone from Israel forms the baptismal font. Bernhard Hirche carved a relief into its base depicting the outline of the Sea of Galilee.
The altar windows tell a powerful story. They depict 12 individuals. Portraits of modern apostles from various faiths. Sophie Scholl and Martin Luther King are among the faces gazing upon you. Their stories speak of courage and faith. The Derix company in Taunusstein created these beautiful stained-glass windows. Their installation in 1990 marked a new chapter in the church’s history. A modern tale of faith and resilience.
