Is it possible that a neighborhood’s identity could be so closely intertwined with a football team? Here in Antas, the spirit of FC Porto is palpable. You see, Antas wasn’t always its glamorous self. This neighborhood, intertwined with the history of FC Porto, bears the name of their legendary stadium – Estádio das Antas. This wasn’t just any stadium. It was a cauldron of passion, echoing with the roars of loyal fans for over five decades. Inaugurated in 1952, Estádio das Antas witnessed the rise of FC Porto. It saw them transform from a local team to European giants. The year 1986 marked a turning point for the Antas stadium. The capacity was dramatically increased to 95,000. This expansion was a testament to the club’s growing stature. It cemented Antas’s place on the world football map. Sadly, all good things must end. In 2004, the grand old stadium was demolished. Yet, its legacy lives on. It lives on in the heart of this neighborhood, in the stories recounted in cafes, and in the enduring spirit of FC Porto.
