Founded in 1970 Annunciation Orthodox School stands proudly. It’s a testament to the enduring faith and community spirit of Houston. This isn’t just a school. It’s a living legacy. A ministry of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral AOS opened its doors to educate children. Initially it served students from kindergarten through 8th grade. Today over 700 children from preschool through 8th grade attend.
Annunciation Orthodox School isn’t just about academics. It’s about nurturing the whole child. The school’s mission is to foster academic spiritual emotional social and physical excellence. It aims to develop responsible members of society. They achieve this through a rich curriculum steeped in Greek traditions and culture. Students learn about Greek mythology and history. They participate in cultural celebrations. They develop strong character in a Christian environment. But AOS embraces all faiths celebrating the diverse backgrounds of its students. This creates a climate of mutual respect and understanding.
The school’s growth is remarkable. It started small. It added a grade level each year for a period. A significant milestone was the opening of its middle school in 1992. Then came the main school building in 2002. This impressive 64000 square foot structure houses students. Other buildings like the Katherine E Veletsos Lower School building and the Jesse H and Mary Gibbs Jones Early Childhood Development Center expanded its capacity. The campus itself spans two city blocks. It includes a running track an athletic field and an activity center. Its location in the Museum Montrose area offers a unique blend of learning and cultural immersion.
The school’s commitment extends beyond the classroom. The AGAPE assembly and the Chapel Buddy Program connect students across grade levels. These initiatives foster empathy and community. The school also highlights community service providing students with opportunities to give back. The impact of Annunciation Orthodox School reaches far beyond its walls. It has become a cornerstone of the Houston community. It’s a place where faith academics and cultural heritage intertwine. It’s a place where children learn and grow not just intellectually but spiritually and emotionally.
Annunciation Orthodox School is more than a school. It is a vibrant community. It is a place where traditions are honored. It’s a place where future leaders are nurtured. It is a beacon of faith education and cultural richness in the heart of Houston. It’s a place to discover a legacy of learning and faith.
