Ever wondered what it’s like to be part of a community with over a century of history? Annerley Church of Christ offers just that. Since 1913 this congregation has shared the love of Jesus in the community. It has offered prayer and support, and helped meet practical needs.
Let’s step back in time. Annerley Church of Christ started as a Bible school in February 1913. It was on Ipswich Road in Annerley. A church congregation then formed in February 1914. They met at the Walker Memorial Hall. The congregation purchased land on Annerley Road in 1919. The Mount Vernor church building was moved to this new site.
Today the Annerley Church of Christ still stands at 459 Annerley Road. It maintains its heritage of hospitality and openness to all. Its mission is for people to know Jesus personally. Sunday mornings here start at 10am. The Lord’s Supper is shared weekly. People sing together and reflect on the Word. After the service, there’s coffee and lunch. People have faith and non-faith conversations, and prayer.
Interestingly, the Annerley Church of Christ shares its space with City South Presbyterian Church. City South Presbyterian Church started as a campus church in 2014 in South Brisbane. Though different denominations, they unite in their faith in Jesus Christ. As Jesus said, “Love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples.”
Throughout the week, many community activities happen here. There is a craft group. Pantry Assist provides food relief. Besides, the Brisbane Cook Islands Adventist Church and Elam Alive meet here. Annerley Church of Christ is more than just a building. It is a vibrant community hub. It welcomes everyone to share and grow in faith.
