Established in 1967, Annapolis High School has been a cornerstone of Dearborn Heights, Michigan. It’s the sole high school within Dearborn Heights School District #7. Annapolis High School proudly serves as one of three high schools in the city, alongside Crestwood High School and Robichaud High School. The school wasn’t always known as Annapolis High. It was originally built in the late 1950s and served as Best Junior High School. The transformation occurred at a school board meeting on November 29, 1966. The decision was made to establish Annapolis High School. The school opened its doors in September 1967, welcoming approximately 450 students. Annapolis High School achieved accreditation from the University of Michigan in 1970, marking a significant milestone in its history. The school’s athletic history holds an interesting twist. In 2002, Annapolis High School made headlines by discontinuing its football program. The reason? A lack of student interest. This situation repeated itself in 2012. The team lacked enough upperclassmen for a varsity team. The remaining varsity players joined the freshmen and sophomores on the JV team. This decision sparked controversy within the school’s athletic conference. The school colors are blue and gold, and the mascot is the Cougars. The fight song rallies students with “Fight on Cougars!”. Their motto? “Achieving Higher Standards”.
