Anna of Green is a recycle sculpture. The artist Thomas Dambo built her for the MS Artville festival in Hamburg in the summer of 2016. Dambo had an idea. He wanted to build a sculpture around a tree. He envisioned using the tree’s crown as the sculpture’s hair. MS Artville’s location near Hamburg’s harbor made it ideal. The area had many trees.
Anna of Green represents a goddess of nature. Her body is within Mother Earth. Only her head is at ground level. Her hair is a seven-meter-tall tree. The artist wants to remind us that nature is within us all. We must protect it.
Dambo built Anna of Green using leftover scrapwood from the festival site. He also used old pallets. She got her name from a volunteer. Her name was Anna and she helped build the sculpture.
