Nestled in the heart of Ankara, the Ankara Palace stands as a testament to a nation’s resilience. Ankara Palace wasn’t always intended for the grandeur it exudes today. Initially designed in 1924 as the Ministry of Health building by architect Vedat Tek, fate had other plans. When construction stalled and Tek moved on, Mimar Kemaleddin Bey stepped in. Tragically, he died on the building site in 1927, a year before the Ankara Palace was finally completed in 1928. Instead of housing medical professionals, it became a haven for members of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. Imagine the bustling hallways filled with the murmur of political debate. The Ankara Palace, in its early years, witnessed the birth pangs of a new nation. This magnificent structure embodies the First Turkish National Architectural movement. Its symmetrical two-story design, pitched roof, and domed central entrance, flanked by twin towers, speak of a proud heritage. In 1983, the Ankara Palace underwent a transformation. It was meticulously restored and reborn as a 60-room state guesthouse. Today, the Ankara Palace stands proudly in the Ulus district, directly across from the historic first Grand National Assembly building, now the War of Independence Museum.
