The largest provider of health and social care courses in East Anglia. That’s Anglia Ruskin University’s Faculty of Health Medicine & Social Care. Its story begins much earlier though. In 1858 the Cambridge School of Art opened its doors. John Ruskin himself delivered the inaugural speech. This wasn’t the beginning of the university as we know it today. It’s just the starting point of a long and fascinating journey.

The school later transformed into the Cambridgeshire College of Arts and Technology. Then in 1989 it merged with the Essex Institute of Higher Education. This merger created Anglia Higher Education College. The college became a polytechnic and then finally a university in 1992. The name Anglia Ruskin University was adopted in 2005. This reflects a continued partnership and excellence.

The Faculty of Health Medicine & Social Care is a cornerstone of ARU. It trains nurses midwives teachers and social care professionals. It’s one of ARU’s four faculties.
