Did you ever hear of a church that doubles as a restaurant and a school? Here at Andreasförsamlingen Fjällstugan, that’s exactly what you’ll find. Andreasförsamlingen Fjällstugan isn’t your typical church. Perched on the western heights of Jönköping, it offers breathtaking views of the Vätterbygd. It’s a vibrant hub, bustling with life seven days a week.

Andreasförsamlingen Fjällstugan began its journey in 1915. A small group from the western part of Jönköping decided to unite and form a congregation. They initially called themselves “Jönköpings Stadsmissionsförenings Norra Församling”. They used two existing mission houses for their gatherings. It wasn’t until 1948 that they adopted the name “Andreasförsamlingen”. Just a few years prior, in 1943, amidst the turmoil of World War II, they began planning a new church. This church, Andreaskyrkan, was completed in 1954. It stood at the intersection of Narvavägen and Swedenborgsgatan, a modern landmark for the then 175 members.

The Fjällstugan itself, the building we stand before now, was actually completed much earlier, in 1935. Initially intended as a summer home, it quickly became much more. It underwent expansions in 1941 and again in 1975. The Andreasförsamlingen community continued to thrive and grow, reaching a peak membership of 248 in 1996. A mischievous incident in 1998 caused water damage to Fjällstugan. This led to a renovation of the kitchen, bringing it up to restaurant standards.

The turning point came in the early 2000s. The decision was made to consolidate all activities at Andreasförsamlingen Fjällstugan. Andreaskyrkan was sold and converted into modern residences. Fjällstugan underwent a significant transformation. A new church hall and a church square were added. The old café became a restaurant, connected to the now expanded kitchen. The ground floor was developed to house spaces for children and youth activities, as well as a small doctor’s office. In 2008, the third floor was expanded to accommodate a summer café, conference facilities, a chapel, and other gathering spaces.

Today, Andreasförsamlingen Fjällstugan is more than just a church. It’s a community center. It’s a place for children to learn and grow. Hisingstorpsskolan even holds its after-school program here. With nearly 1,800 square meters of activity space, Fjällstugan serves almost 2,000 people every week. From church services and youth groups to the bustling restaurant, it truly embodies its vision: “A church – with room for all of life.” Andreasförsamlingen Fjällstugan stands as a testament to the power of community and adaptation, a place where history meets modern life in a harmonious blend.
