An Hai connects Da Nang to the Cham civilization. The Cham kingdom thrived here long ago. It stood from the 2nd to the 15th centuries. Da Nang was at the edge of their influence. The name Da Nang comes from the Cham language. It means “opening of a large river”.

Consider the strategic location. Da Nang sits on the coast of the South China Sea. The Han River flows through it. This made it a vital port city. Cham people prospered here. Later the Vietnamese came. They expanded south. They took over Cham lands.

An Hai reflects Vietnamese culture now. The Vietnamese presence grew. It shaped Da Nang into a major city. In 1858 French troops landed in Da Nang. This began the French colonial period. The French saw Da Nang’s value as a port. They called it Tourane.

During the Vietnam War Da Nang was a key airbase. It was one of the busiest in the world. After the war Da Nang grew again. It became a center for commerce and education.

Da Nang has a tropical monsoon climate. The wet season brings typhoons. The dry season is warm and sunny. The city’s geography is diverse. Mountains lie to the west. The South China Sea is to the east. This creates a beautiful backdrop.

Da Nang is now a modern city. It has bridges and beaches. Tourists flock here. They visit the Marble Mountains. They see the Dragon Bridge. They relax on My Khe Beach.

Da Nang is more than a beach resort. It is a place where cultures meet. The Cham the Vietnamese and the French all left their mark. An Hai stands as a testament to this mix.
