The vision for AUPP began with Dr. Chea Vandeth. He collaborated with Dr. Kem Reat Viseth and Dr. Kenneth Dunn. Together, they imagined a university that would raise Cambodia’s educational standards. The American University of Phnom Penh started with just 40 students at a temporary campus. This was in Toul Kork.

AUPP has solidified partnerships with the University of Arizona and Fort Hays State University. These agreements allow students to earn accredited American degrees. They can do it without leaving Cambodia. These are dual degree programs. Students receive a bachelor’s degree from AUPP and another from the American Partner University.
AUPP offers various undergraduate majors. These include Business Administration, Communications, and e-Society. You can also study Law, Global Affairs, and Information Technology Management. AUPP moved to its current campus in Russei Keo in 2017. The Student Affairs department supports students. It provides counseling, wellness programs, and career support. The American University of Phnom Penh has many student clubs. These include Music Club, Dance Club, and Art Club. There is also a Debate Club and an Entrepreneur Club.
