Ever wonder how Cambodian students can earn an American degree without leaving Phnom Penh? Here at the American University of Phnom Penh, or AUPP, that dream is a reality. AUPP stands as a beacon of international education right here in Cambodia.

Founded in August 2013, AUPP quickly established itself as a leading private university. It uses English as the medium of instruction. The American University of Phnom Penh embodies international best practices. It offers high-quality academic programs.

The vision for AUPP began with Dr. Chea Vandeth. He collaborated with Dr. Kem Reat Viseth and Dr. Kenneth Dunn. Together, they imagined a university that would raise Cambodia’s educational standards. AUPP was organized as a non-profit institution. Its mission is to contribute to Cambodia’s human resource development. The American University of Phnom Penh started with just 40 students at a temporary campus. This was in Toul Kork.

A Board of Trustees guides the university. An International Advisory Board provides expertise. This board includes educators and business leaders from the U.S. and Cambodia. They advise AUPP on management, academics, and services.

AUPP has solidified partnerships with the University of Arizona and Fort Hays State University. These agreements allow students to earn accredited American degrees. They can do it without leaving Cambodia. These are dual degree programs. Students receive a bachelor’s degree from AUPP and another from the American Partner University.

AUPP offers various undergraduate majors. These include Business Administration, Communications, and e-Society. You can also study Law, Global Affairs, and Information Technology Management. Other options are Computer Science, Data Analytics, and Cybersecurity. The American University of Phnom Penh even offers Artificial Intelligence.

The American University of Phnom Penh also offers minors. These include Law, Economics, and South-East Asian Studies. Graduate degrees are available too. You can pursue a Master of Business Administration or a Master of Laws. There are also master’s degrees in Computer Science.

AUPP moved to its current campus in Russei Keo in 2017. The Student Affairs department supports students. It provides counseling, wellness programs, and career support. The American University of Phnom Penh has many student clubs. These include Music Club, Dance Club, and Art Club. There is also a Debate Club and an Entrepreneur Club.

AUPP emphasizes personal growth and community engagement. Students participate in service-learning projects. The Student Government Association organizes events and speaker series. The American University of Phnom Penh prepares students to be competitive in the global marketplace. AUPP graduates have gone on to pursue master’s degrees in the U.S. and Australia. They often receive scholarships. They have also won national and international business competitions.

So, as you stand here at the American University of Phnom Penh, remember its commitment. AUPP strives for academic rigor, ethical standards, and innovation. It truly embodies its motto: Study Locally, Live Globally.
