It’s a territory of about 2,922 km2, encompassing the municipalities of Boticas, Chaves, Montalegre, Ribeira de Pena, Valpaços, and Vila Pouca de Aguiar. The Alto Tâmega is truly a place where ancient history meets modern-day wonders. You’ll find ancient Roman ruins, like the famous Roman Baths of Chaves. These baths date back to the 2nd century AD and provide a glimpse into the rich history of the region. But don’t think that the Alto Tâmega is all about the past.
