Did you ever hear of a park built within an ancient elm forest? Here in Alnarpsparken, history whispers through the rustling leaves. Alnarpsparken isn’t just any park. It’s a living testament to time, nestled in the small village of Alnarp, within Lomma Municipality. This 26-hectare expanse opened its gates to the public sometime in the 1880s. Its design, however, began much earlier, in 1859, coinciding with the construction of Alnarp Castle. The castle served as the main building for the Alnarp Agricultural Institute. Interestingly, Alnarpsparken’s creation took nearly two decades, a testament to the meticulous planning and dedication poured into it. What makes Alnarpsparken truly special is its unique origin. The park was designed within a pre-existing elm forest, a forest even mentioned in Carl von Linné’s “Skånska Resa” from the 18th century. This means that many of the majestic trees you see today predate the park itself, standing as silent witnesses to centuries of history.
