“A sanctuary for the faithful for over a century.” Allendale Baptist Church has stood as a testament to faith and community in Houston since its humble beginnings in 1882. Seventeen devoted Baptists came together to establish the New Allendale Baptist Church. The Reverend J. A. Lawton and the Reverend J. E. Morrall guided the nascent congregation. Their vision was to create a place where people could come together to worship and grow in their faith. The journey began with dedication and determination. In 1883 the church acquired its present site and the following year construction commenced. The first church building rose from the ground. Completed in 1886 for $2,207.68 it marked a significant milestone in the church’s history. The church thrived and evolved over time. In 1903 it transitioned from monthly to weekly Sunday services signaling a growing congregation eager to nourish their spiritual lives. Allendale Baptist Church continued to adapt to the needs of its community. The construction of an Educational Building in 1958 and a new Sanctuary in 1966 provided ample space for worship and fellowship. These physical transformations reflected the church’s commitment to growth and service. Through the years Allendale Baptist Church has remained a steadfast presence in Houston. Its story is one of unwavering faith dedication to service and an unwavering commitment to fostering a vibrant and inclusive community. As you stand before this beautiful church know that you are witnessing over a century of faith history and community.
