Bishop G.W. Freeman initiated the church’s work in Crockett on April 19, 1850. Bishop Alexander Gregg officially founded All Saints on October 1, 1864. Interestingly, the church played a special role in ministering to slaves.
Initially, a church building was erected on land donated by A.T. Monroe. He was the nephew of a U.S. President. However, by 1867, this original building was lost. Some believe it was due to a fire. The local economy also suffered after the Civil War.
For many years, worship services were held in homes. Lay readers and visiting priests kept the spirit alive. In 1947, All Saints was reactivated. A second church was built in 1958.
Today, All Saints’ Episcopal Church continues to welcome everyone to its Sunday services. The church is located at 1301 E Houston Avenue.
The first Sunday of each month is special. After the 10 a.m. service, everyone gathers in the Parish Hall. They enjoy coffee, donuts, and fellowship.
