Envision a haven of tranquility amidst Colombo’s vibrant chaos. That’s All Saints’ Church. All Saints’ Church stands proudly in Borella. Its history whispers tales of faith perseverance and community.

In 1884 a remarkable woman Mrs Wyndham Thompson wife of the Welikada Prisons Superintendent ignited the spark. This devout Irish Catholic secured land for a church. She envisioned a sanctuary dedicated to All Saints. Her vision materialized decades later. The foundation stone of All Saints’ Church was laid in 1935.

The current church is a stunning example of Gothic architecture. Step inside and behold a kaleidoscope of colors. Stained glass windows bathe the interior in vibrant hues. The main window above the altar showcases the Mother of Perpetual Help. It’s a breathtaking sight. Listen closely. All Saints’ Church possesses a unique treasure. A carillon of 25 bells each named for a saint rings out melodies. These bells were specially cast in West Germany. The church also boasts a choir balcony. It’s a place of uplifting music and spiritual reflection.

All Saints’ Church served as a spiritual anchor for the community for many years. Father John Herath served as parish priest from 1948 to 1977. His dedication solidified the church’s place in the hearts of many.

All Saints’ Church is more than just a building. It’s a living testament to faith resilience and the enduring power of community. It’s a place where the past present and future intertwine. It’s a beacon of hope in the heart of Colombo. A place where people come together to celebrate life and faith. Visit All Saints’ Church. Experience its beauty and serenity for yourself.
