What began as the Japanese Christian Church has transformed into All Peoples First Assembly Church. This church has a rich and diverse history. We stand here ready to explore its story.
All Peoples Christian Church has roots in the early twentieth century. The Japanese Christian Church and Institute served South Los Angeles. World War II brought immense change. Leaders and members faced internment. In 1942, the United Christian Missionary Fund stepped in. Reverend Dan Genung led the rebuilding. All Peoples Christian Center opened its doors. It offered daycare and support to South Los Angeles.
The first worship service took place in 1946. For nearly eight decades, All Peoples strived to be inclusive. The church aimed to be multi-ethnic and multi-cultural. Despite major community changes, this vision remained. Sadly, after nearly 80 years of service, All Peoples Christian Church closed its doors. The church served as a national beacon of hope. It fought against injustice and inequality. Its mission sought peace. The church fulfilled the Gospel. Inspired by Isaiah 56:7, it welcomed all.
Today, All Peoples First Assembly Church continues this legacy. Josh and Stephanie Roberts lead the church. They launched All People in March 2024. They bring authenticity and passion to their roles. The Roberts have a heart for those who have yet to meet Christ. They desire to see people experience Jesus. They believe the local church is the hope of the world.
Overseers provide spiritual protection to All Peoples First Assembly Church. They offer counsel and accountability to the lead pastors. The board offers counsel to the lead pastors. They provide spiritual support and missional fulfillment. Strategic planning and financial accountability are also key. Elders assist the pastoral staff. They provide spiritual care. They offer encouragement.
All Peoples First Assembly Church embraces core beliefs. They accept the Bible as the inspired word of God. They believe in the Trinity. God is revealed as the Father, Jesus Christ the Son and Holy Spirit. Jesus is the Son of God. He became a man to redeem mankind. Salvation is for everyone. It is provided through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. Water Baptism confirms the believer’s salvation. The Holy Spirit empowers Christian service. The church believes in the Great Commission. They preach the Gospel. They lay hands on the sick. God is good. He redeems men from sin, sickness and poverty. The church upholds the institution of marriage. They believe in the return of the Lord Jesus.
