“Did you hear about the pastor who resigned from his fancy New York City church?” Right here, at 810 West Somerset Street, stands the Alianza Cristiana y Misonera. This church is part of a legacy that started with a bold move by a pastor named Albert Benjamin Simpson. In 1881, Simpson felt a calling to reach those who felt forgotten by traditional churches. He started a small gathering, and just like that, the seed for the Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA) was planted. The Alianza Cristiana y Misonera in Philadelphia is a testament to Simpson’s vision of a church for everyone, regardless of background or social standing. His passion for reaching the lost extended beyond New York City. Simpson dreamed of taking the Gospel to every corner of the world. To prepare those called to this mission, he established the Missionary Training Institute, one of the first Bible colleges in North America. It was a place where ordinary people were equipped to do extraordinary things. Through the years, the C&MA has remained steadfast in its commitment to spreading the message of Jesus Christ. Today, the Alianza Cristiana y Misonera in Philadelphia stands as a beacon of hope. It’s a place where people from all walks of life can come together. They can experience the love of Christ and be empowered to make a difference in their community and beyond.
